Survey Types

There are various types of survey available, covering full condition, insurance level, structural and limited outer bottom surveys. The full descriptions and comparison chart below show what each survey type covers. All surveys come with a comprehensive report, but you will know on the day of any major issues that could be a 'deal breaker'.

You can also download a copy of a full condition survey of a sailing and motor yacht in order to see the level of detail you can expect from us.T

Motor Survey Report Example

Machinery Inspection - for larger engines and particularly those in motor yachts, it is highly recommended to have the engine(s) and the sterndrive(s) / conventional shaft drive(s) / generator(s) inspected by an independent marine engineer. A full inspection will also be accompanied by a sea trial incorporating complete engine diagnostics for newer engines. We work with some very competent engineers fully conversant with Volvo Penta, Yanmar, Mercury, Caterpillar and Man engines etc and we will be happy to arrange this on your behalf.

Engines

Sea Trial - we can undertake sailing yacht sea trials that will incorporate engine performance, overall yacht handling and response along with sails inspection and overall operation. This will likely be undertaken on a separate day to any survey, so as not to rush the other aspect and try and squeeze it all into one day - this is how things can be missed!

Other Survey Types

Surveys are not restricted to pre-purchase and insurance types either and so we also deal with the following:

  • Pre-delivery inspections (PDI)

  • Valuation surveys (for finance)

  • Damage inspections (should you be unfortunate enough to have a mishap)
